Camp Without Barriers for Children and Adults with Disabilities

From campfire sing-a-longs and late night ghost stories, to nature walks, swimming, and arts and crafts, New Mexico Easter Seals - Santa Maria El Mirador camps provide the same excitement and activity available at other summer camp programs. The difference? Easter Seals campers experience the joys and challenges of camp in a fully-accessible setting.

As a veteran service-provider for children and adults with disabilities, ES-SMEM meets the need for accessible camping with several sessions accommodating up to 30 campers at a time.

The camp is on a beautiful wooded site with comfortable cabins and a beautiful dining hall facility. The camp has an RN on site 24 hours a day and a ratio of one counselor for every two campers. Our counselors are all over the age of eighteen and an amazing group of young people each summer. On the camp site itself campers enjoy arts and crafts, a climbing wall, sports, dances, talent shows, archery, and nature study. We use accessible vans to go off site to the aquatic center in Gallup, to the bowling alley, to Indian Dances, and to hike El Morro National Monument. Most of our campers have been coming for ten or more years and camp is an important part of their lives. Campers greet old friends each year, and make new ones. summer, camp, flowers
